Jim Legxacy may be one of the artists who will take away the Frank Ocean bug as he wakes up from his long sleep and decides to make music again. Of course, the 24-year-old British singer and producer has his own style, mixing his delicate voice with afrobeat, guitar riffs and even drill in an addictive mixer of musical genres. ‘aggressive’ is the Song of the Day’.
“Made in Britain, paid for in Britain” is what sounds at the beginning of the second single from his upcoming mixtape, ‘black british music’. What follows is somewhere between R&B and Afrobeat, and even has traces of his successful collaboration with Fred again…, ‘ten’. “When you get aggressive, you throw words like frag grenades,” Jim sings in the chorus. The video clip also takes us back to the Blackberry era, with numerous shots recorded with the Y2K device par excellence.
‘aggressive’ is Jim Legxacy’s first song to be released under the support of a record label, XL Recordings, since until now all his releases had been self-released. The same thing happened with the mixtape that put him on the map, the exciting ‘homeless n*gga pop music’, included in Pitchfork’s recent list of the best albums of the decade.
The title, by the way, is totally real. Jim promoted the project on his networks: «A collection of all the songs and demos that I started when I was on the street. Thank you to everyone who gave me a place to sleep, record and create. ‘dj’ is the song that opens the mixtape and one of the songs that most defines his particular style. Some YouTube comments describe it as “indie drill.” It’s just a great song.
