Jamie xx and Avalanches force you to dance on ‘All You Children’

Jamie xx’s long-awaited second album, ‘In Waves’, is out on September 20th and is packed with exciting collaborations, including Robyn on ‘Life’, all of the xx on ‘Waited All Night’, and also the Avalanches on the new single that has just been released.

In ‘All You Children’, Jamie xx and the Avalanches – the Australian duo formed by Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi – join forces by sampling two unknown gems from the 70s, on the one hand, ‘Dance Poem’ by the American poet Nikki Giovanni and, on the other, the vocals from a Hebrew children’s album, specifically those of a song called “the Sabbath dress.”

‘All You Children’ is once again an exciting production by Jamie xx, with which the British producer creates magic through the two samples mentioned, of course hand in hand with the Avalanches. In ‘All You Children’, Giovanni’s recited text, which invites us to “dance, get together and stop crying”, no longer sounds tender, but imperative. It seems made to end up in a production like this, designed in the style of classic techno-house.

On today’s Song Of The Day, the childlike vocals of “the Sabbat dress” provide the “Avalanches” finish to ‘All You Children’, so much so that the Avalanches, such fans of this type of sound, had already used this sample before, on their 2016 song ‘Sunshine’, included on ‘Wildflower’.

As you may remember, Jamie xx and the Avalanches had already collaborated on ‘Wherever You Go’, a song included on the Australians’ latest album, ‘We Will Always Love You’ (2020).
