Ana Perrote and Carlotta Cosials, current members of Hinds, have given an interview to El Mundo on the occasion of the great success of their fourth album, ‘VIVA HINDS’. This has been included in Rolling Stone’s top 100 best albums of 2024, being the only one from national artists.
Now that there are only two of them, Carlotta and Ana assure that they are here because they want to: “We have the same commitment and the same level of work responsibility.” They also reveal that “being four was very difficult”: “In a group there is a lot of coexistence, a lot of egos and a lot of creativity. Many things are mixed together while you are tired and there is a lot of alcohol. “It is a quite dangerous cocktail,” they declare.
Ana jokes that her dream really is “to have an assistant,” because they do everything themselves: “We take the flights, we take care of the merch, the posters, the social networks, the invoices, the video clips…” They assure that “there is no band that works harder than Hinds.” What is certain is that they work more than the “superstars” of Malasaña: “Travelling has taken away our air of greatness, of which there are quite a few in Spain.”
Even after having played with The Strokes and having performed at Coachella, Hinds receives haughty looks: «You go to any bar in Malasaña and there is a lot of staring. There are many superstars. Then you come out and realize you’re not shit. We are the little ants of the zoo and there is still plenty left to be the elephant,” says Perrote.
Finally, they reflect on the longevity of the band: «We don’t know how many women’s bands there are that already have four studio albums. There is a feeling that women have an expiration date as university students in music. And, man, Patti Smith and Hinds proved the opposite,” says Perrote.
