After media from around the world – including us – echoed what was supposed to be a joint project between Henry Rollins and Ian Mackayethe first one has clarified the news.
Henry Rollins’ words confused everyone, saying on his radio show that he was in the studio mixing some songs with Ian Mackaye from Fugazi, Minor Threatetc., with whom he has had a great friendship since he was the vocalist of State Of Alert (SOA) and black flag.
Now Rollins has clarified the words. Both artists have been together at Don Zientara’s (producer of countless Washington DC hardcore classics) Inner Ear Studios and have been mixing material. And here is the big clarification: it is not a recording in which neither he nor Mackaye appear, but rather the two have been mixing some songs by a group from the beginnings of American hardcore punk that Rollins recently found.
The intention was to give them a new mix so they could be released, being a four-song demo recorded in 1979. The demo was transferred to Infrasonic Sound in Nashville and the material was sent to Inner Ear for both musicians to mix. Rollins has also confirmed that he contacted one of the band members – without revealing which one he was – to raise the possibility of remixing and publishing this material. We hope to soon find out who it is.
