Fontaines DC relaunch ‘Bug’ in the new one by Andrea Arnold

Fontaines DC re-release this week what was already one of the most popular songs from their latest album, ‘Romance’. This is ‘Bug’, who appears in Andrea Arnold’s new film ‘Bird’, which opens this weekend in some countries. It will arrive in Spain on November 29 from Avalon.

‘Bug’ was not one of the four preview singles but it has been one of the most popular tracks. Of course, he was not missing from his recent concert at the WiZink Center in Madrid. It’s our “Song of the Day” today.

Andrea Arnold (‘Red Road’, ‘Fish Tank’, ‘American Honey’) is a fan of Fontaines DC and that’s why she asked for permission to use their songs like ‘Too Real’ and ‘A Hero’s Death’ in her film. Themes by Blur and Sleaford Mods also appear. Arnold has said: «I have loved Fontaines since I first heard them. Some music stays in your bones as if it always belonged to you, as if you already knew it, as if it were part of you.

Additionally, band member Carlos O’Connell stars in a cameo in ‘Bird’: “Andrea Arnold was kind enough to cut a sequence of our song ‘Bug’ with Barry Keoghan playing the character “Bug” in his new film ‘Bird.’ ‘. ‘Bug’ is a song that happened quickly and convinced everyone even faster. In my eyes, the character of Bug, the “Bug’s Life” tattoo, the essential and romantic worlds of Andrea, and the line ‘Changed my name to “Promise you, Yea”’; When they come together they make convincing unnecessary and conviction undeniable. Many thanks to Andrea Arnold for letting us enter so close to her visionary universe. “She will be remembered as we remember Bacon or Goya.”

With actors such as Barry Keoghan, Franz Rogowski and Nykiya Adams, ‘Bird’ tells the story of Bailey, a 12-year-old boy who lives with his single father “Bug” and his brother Hunter in a squat in north Kent. As Avalon advances, “Bug doesn’t have much time for his children and Bailey, approaching puberty, seeks attention and adventures of her own.”

With a serious tone even in its soft melody, ‘Bug’ is one of the most immediate songs on ‘Romance’ and one that reveals a certain crisis, in this case regarding forgiveness and commitment. The song lists a series of excuses like “baby, I swear I wanted to call you, but I fell along the way,” as well as a chorus that says: “Will you apologize for the rest of your life? Will you accept the charges? Grian Chatten speaks here once again about his age (“28 years are coming to end”), while to see how all these doubts fit into ‘Bird’ we will have to wait for the day of its release.
