Our Album of the Week is ‘Los manantiales’ by Daga Voladora, whom you met as a member of Clovis. One of the ideal compositions to delve into their magnetic world is ‘Quise ser’, our Song of the Day today.
‘Quise ser’ begins guided by an acoustic guitar and ends smeared with distorted electric guitars. And yet it is not a folk song at all, much less an indie-rock song. With its synthesizers and its rhythm close to reggae, it could have been one of those songs that Single made with no choruses. Its lyrics seem to speak of old possibilities and traumas, ranging from the professional to the personal.
“I wanted to be / A fictional hero / An expressionist painter / A new actress” is the first verse of the song, while other parts of the song are more about love, talking about “The waitress of your love”, “Star in your constellation” and finally “Object of your perdition”.
In an interview with Jaime Cristóbal that we will publish this Sunday, Daga Voladora denies that ‘Quise ser’ is about frustration. And also that this is an “adult” album.
These are her words: «I hate the word “adult”! The other day someone asked me about my “childish melodies” and my “toy sounds” and I felt so offended that I wanted to strangle him. But then I thought “are there even “adult melodies?” and it made me feel sick. Look, I can’t deny that I’m already having an experience, but ‘I wanted to be’ has nothing to do with frustration, but with wanting everything in life, even things that are opposite.»
