Former guitarist and founding member of Turnstile, Brady Ebert, has been arrested after allegedly hitting his former bandmate’s father, Brendan Yates, with his car. Ebert was arrested on March 31 in Maryland and charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of first-degree assault, Pitchfork reports.
Yates’ father, William Yates, had to undergo surgery after suffering “severe physical trauma” to his legs after the alleged accident.
The incident happened last Sunday, March 29, when, according to Turnstile’s statement to Pitchfork, Ebert approached the entrance to Yates’ house, got his attention by honking and yelling insults at him, and then left and returned with his car and hit him “intentionally” while the father was standing in his driveway.
In his statement, Turnstile details the background leading up to the incident, explaining that the band had already cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 due to “a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.” According to the group, “we chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances of his departure, even when he did nothing that deserved that protection,” but over the next few months, Ebert’s threats continued to escalate, leading to last week’s physical attack.
The statement also describes the attack directly: “Last week, that violence led to a physical attack when Brady went to Brendan’s parents’ house and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma.” The band expressed their relief that William Yates survived the attack and underwent successful surgery, noting that “we hope for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
