Émilie Dequenne, Belgian actress known for her role in the 1999 ‘Rosetta’ film, which earned her gold palm in Cannes with 18 years, has died in a Villejuif hospital, in Paris, where she was admitted to palliative treatments, because of rare cancer, a tumor of the adrenal gland.
‘Rosetta’ of the Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne also won the golden palm for best film, and consolidated Dequenne in French cinema. In ‘Rosetta’, Dequenne played a teenager who lived in a caravan with his alcoholic mother.
Dequenne would since then participate in about 60 films, such as’ The Pact of Los Lobos’ (2001), ‘The Great Meaulnes (2006),’ Charlotte Corday ‘(2008) or’ It is not my guy ‘(2014). In addition, she had been nominated for the César awards up to five times, and won the 2021 award, in the category of best cast actress, for ‘The things we say, the things we do’ (2020).
