“This Machine Rising” is now available after the American band Dropkick Murphys released it on YouTube on Friday. The film portrays the process that the members of the group followed in converting texts by the legendary singer-songwriter Woody Guthrie. Class-conscious texts that Dropkick Murphys turned into songs and recorded to form two full albums. The documentary follows the composition of the music, the recording and the presentation concerts of the two acoustic albums that resulted, “This Machine Still Kills Fascists” and “Okemah Rising”.
The project was born through friendship with Nora GuthrieWoody’s daughter, and the one who created the hit “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” years ago, also with a text by Guthrie. It was she who provided the band with the archives with unpublished texts by her father.
In addition to interviews with band members, Guthrie’s daughter, producers and technicians, we also get comments from two musicians with a conscience. working class How are they? Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) and the British singer-songwriter Billy Bragg.
