Doug Inglefounding member and lead vocalist of the classic band psych rock Iron Butterfly, died at the age of seventy-eight “in the presence of his family.” He was the last original living member of the group.
Iron Butterfly was formed in 1966 by Ingle in San Diego, California. However, the band was not known until signing a record deal, which included Ingle, the drummer. Ron Bushythe bassist Lee Dorman and the guitarist Eric Brann. The band is known for their 1968 hit “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, co-written by Ingle. This song is credited as one of the progenitors of hard rock and heavy metal music.
Ingle wrote other classics such as “Soul Experience”, “In The Time Of Our Lives” and “Easy Rider”. Finally, the band broke up in 1971, although they toured together in 1999. In 2014 it became public that the band was making a new album with a song by Ingle, Ingle Jr.. The guitarist Mike Pinera told to Classic Rock: “We just renovated Iron Butterfly with some original members: Ron Bushythe original drummer and founder of the band, myself and Doug Ingle Jr.“. The album was never released.
The son of Doug Ingle writes in an official statement published on Facebook: “With a broken heart and with great sadness, it pains me to announce the death of my father Doug Ingle. My father passed away peacefully tonight in the presence of his family. Thank you dad for being a great father, teacher and friend. I will keep all your memories in my memory forever. I love you, dad.” The cause of the singer's death has not been explained.
