Don’t discover CURRO ‘A Toro Pasao’

CURRO is the artistic alias of Curro Gómez Viejo, singer and composer from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, who is making himself known with a proposal that fuses his roots in flamenco with hip-hop and electronic sounds. Some of his most popular songs have emerged from his collaborations with producer and DJ Tony Grox, who together with LUCYCALYS will participate in Benidorm Fest 2026.

This is the case of ‘El Palmar’, in fact the biggest success of both CURRO and Tony Grox on streaming platforms, far above the rest, as it has nearly 7 million views on Spotify alone.

‘El Palmar’ is emblematic of CURRO’s style, and we also find its sound explored and refined in ‘aDIOS’, or in the more disruptive ‘TK’. Gómez, who began playing music at the age of 13, when he taught himself to play percussion, and later discovered his passion for composition and production, says he is “praised to God” in his official biography. This is how the new generations of artists spend their time. In fact, ‘God Will Tell, God Will Provide’ is the title of their next album, their third.

The taste for tradition – modernized – is evident in melodies and vocal inflections, and of course also in aesthetics. That’s why their latest single, ‘A Toro Pasao’, is their best to date. It’s the Song of the Day for today, Thursday.

‘A Toro Pasao’ is a fine hybrid of pop, flamenco palm, some rumba and Ibizan-style electronics (those trumpets and percussion) that is reminiscent of the proposals of DELLAFUENTE (Tony Grox’s collaborator) or Judeline, but that melodically seems to draw on the songbook of Niña Pastori, one of CURRO’s musical references.

Spanish imagery is present in the title of ‘A Toro Pasao’, and behind this title inspired by the famous saying, hides a story of exhaustion and emotional resignation in the face of a feeling of love that has already “expired.” CURRO, now without hope, tries to recover “memories” of the past perhaps in search of a settlement, but his emotional “saturation” prevents him from doing so.

‘A Toro Pasao’ has been promoted with a video clip inspired, according to CURRO in its Instagram stories, in the famous experimental noir ‘Meshes of the Afternoon’ (1943) by Maya Deren. From that short film he recreates its shadows and mysteries.
