Donald Trump has given his opinion on Bad Bunny, after confirming that the author of ‘Baile Inolvidable’ will be in charge of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show. The decision has generated criticism among the American Republican sector, which accuses him of “hating” the United States for his criticism of Trump’s immigration policy and ICE raids.
Bad Bunny has responded that he does not hate the United States and has recalled that he has performed in the country on numerous occasions, although he has stressed that Puerto Rico is “an unincorporated territory of the United States” (with fewer rights, of course) and has condemned the immigration raids.
Fortunately or unfortunately, Trump doesn’t have much to say about Bad Bunny. In fact, he claims not to know who he is. His statements come during a telephone interview with NewsMax host Greg Kelly, who does have a lot to say about the artist. Kelly calls him “that Bunny Rabbit or whatever his name is,” states that Bad Bunny “hates ICE, doesn’t appreciate Trump and considers everything he doesn’t like racism,” proposes boycotting the Super Bowl and questions the supposed “unifying” power of the Puerto Rican, “because many people don’t know who he is.”
Trump is among those people, as he responds: “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they do it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to handle the entertainment. I find it absolutely ridiculous.”
Trump may not know who Bad Bunny is, although his words denote a certain disconnection from reality: Benito is the third most listened to artist in the country (only behind Drake and Taylor Swift) and he presented Saturday Night Live this weekend, although it is unlikely that the president is a fan of the show, where he is often parodied, given his dictatorial methods. If you decide not to miss the Super Bowl next February 8, Bad Bunny will be there, drawing the attention of the entire globe.
Benito has been on the lips of the White House in recent days due to his confirmation at the Super Bowl and his criticism of ICE. Corey Lewandowski, advisor to the Department of Homeland Security, declared that ICE would be present at the Super Bowl, although his words were later denied by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who stated that “as far as we know, there is no tangible plan for that at this time.” Benito has decided not to take his tour to the United States due to its immigration policy.
