That Pipiolas is one of the freshest national groups of recent times is not only something we think, but it is evident in the portfolio of artists who have collaborated with them, from Rigoberta Bandini to Kiko Veneno. Their notable debut, ‘No Hay un Dios’, was released in 2024.
The duo of Adriana Ubani and Paula Reyes, one of Elefant’s big recent signings, made themselves known with cool synth-pop songs like ‘Bailes o qué?’ or ‘Weird Sunday’. His latest single is automatically one of his best songs.
‘Do not touch’ is one of those complex recordings, which beneath its cheerful and happy packaging hides a dark message. The title ad reveals a story about men who stalk, control, and manipulate, and the metaphor about men who “lie,” “tell a shame,” and “never close the door” points to emotional and sexual abuse. Pipiolas’ response is to run away (“I just want no one to touch me / And if they look at me, don’t notice me”) and escape (“What I want is to do what I shouldn’t / Be silly and let it rain”).
And that evasion is achieved in the sound of ‘Not Touching’, definitely inspired by the new wave of the eighties, and also by classic romanticism: the pre-verses include the sound of what seems like a harpsichord, but then the rhythmic base of the chorus is pounding and 100% eighties. ‘Do not touch’ takes us back to the time of the New Romantics, and perhaps that is why the video was recorded at the Museum of Romanticism in Madrid.
The video for ‘Do Not Touch’ “represents, precisely, two romantic women who have lost themselves in Romanticism and become just another piece in a museum in which nothing can be touched.” The note indicates: “A return to the eighties, with the irreverent character of the divas of the time, to demand that no one touch us, that no one look at us, but that everyone listen to us.”
