Ice Spice announces debut album with Megan-style cover

‘Did It First’ is Ice Spice’s fun horn-driven hit

On July 26th, Ice Spice’s official debut album ‘Y2K!’ will be released, and it looks like it won’t last more than 23 minutes and 10 songs. We already know several of the tracks that make up the album, such as ‘Think U the Shit (Fart)’, ‘Gimmie a Light’, ‘Phat Butt’ and ‘Did It First’. The latter is one of the most attractive productions and therefore our Song of the Day for this Tuesday.

Fighting for a top 20 spot in the UK right now, ‘Did It First’ features a less trap, more voguish production and with UK garage tricks, for example in the treatment of the vocals.

Not even 2 minutes long, ‘Did It First’ is also a fun song about cheating, in which Ice Spice fights with Central Cee – who is coming off a hit with Dave – to leave the best bars.

She sticks with the hook that more or less opens the recording (“if he cheats on me, I’ll do worse”), and he defends himself by assuring that “he’s selective about who he hooks up with,” that his girlfriend “checks his cell phone to see who he sleeps with,” and that she “investigates him as if she were a detective.”

Addictive in its sheer agility, ‘Did It First’ has been climbing the Spotify Global charts ever since it was released on Friday. It entered at number 126, then climbed to number 85 and is currently at number 60. It may be Ice Spice’s biggest hit, aside from his feature on ‘Boy’s a Liar’ and his feature on ‘Barbie World’.
