Did Dani Martín plagiarize Alcalá Norte? And these to Manuel Carrasco?

This month Dani Martín has announced a 9th WiZink Center and has published a single called ‘The last day of our lives’. A part of its melody, specifically the keyboard bridge, has reminded many of ‘The King of the Jews’ by Alcalá Norte, taken from their celebrated debut.

Pablo Prieto, bassist of the group and responsible for their X/Twitter account, was quick to echo the similarity between both songs. And he has done it by flaunting his usual humor. First he recalled that he copied an idea from Extremoduro for his tma ‘La calle Elfo’. Then he asked Dani Martín to invite them to play the song at the WiZink Center, and then he warned of the similarity of said melody with other songs.

Specifically, Pablo points out that both melodies are similar to ‘Drums of War’ by Manuel Carrasco (2015) and then he posted one more song by Circa Waves that is also similar. ‘Sad Happy’ dates from 2020. As it is later than Manuel Carrasco’s song, he posted: “if we agree, we will pay Manuel Carrasco a txuletón.”

Once the news appeared in El Mundo, or in RNE, where they laughingly concluded that there was “procedural matter” and “legal matter”, the member of Alcalá Norte said: “Dani Martín, he’s gone crazy, man, Let’s not listen to anyone, you come play Joy the keyboard riff and everything is forgotten. “We only have each other.”

We remind you that Jaime Barbosa, drummer from Alcalá Norte, recently gave us an unmissable interview about ‘Cuéntame’. Yes, the RTVE series. The group’s tour, with dozens of dates, continues throughout the country. Details, here.
