Daniel Platzman leaves Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons is losing its drummer. Daniel Platzman has announced that he is leaving the band to pursue personal projects. “After an incredible journey of over a decade, I am leaving the incredible band that is Imagine Dragons. I want to share my deepest gratitude to you and the fans for your unwavering support and for sharing the joy of music with me.”

Platzman has indicated that he is leaving Imagine Dragons to focus on his “greatest passion,” which is composing film scores.

Imagine Dragons has not posted a farewell message to Platzman yet, instead uploading images of Platzman and other band members playing live. Bassist Ben McKee did comment “we love you Daniel” on Platzman’s post, dispelling any rumours of conflict between the drummer and the band behind ‘Believer’.

Platzman has played on five of Imagine Dragons’ six albums, from 2011 through this summer’s release of Loom, and of course on all of their biggest hits, the multi-million selling Thunder, Radioactive, Bones, the aforementioned Believer and Demons.

This summer, Imagine Dragons have also been in the news for some words dedicated to them by Serj Tankian of System of a Down: he says that as a result of not having cancelled their concert in Azerbaijan, a country where a possible genocide is taking place, he does not “respect them as human beings.”
