Damiano David, singer of Måneskin, is preparing the launch of his debut solo album, from which two singles are already known that represent two different facets of the project, the ballad ‘Silverlines’ and the anthem ‘Born with a Broken Heart’.
Some critics will believe that, in ‘Born with a Broken Heart’, Damiano has finished “selling out” to pop, that he is no longer the bad boy that the world knew at Eurovision. And that’s good, because the song is irresistible. It’s the Song of the Day.
‘Born with a Broken Heart’ is the most overtly pop song that Damiano David has ever signed. Their anthemic piano rock sound is clearly indebted to that of the Killers or Billy Joel, but neither Damiano nor his co-writers, Sarah Hudson, Jason Evigan and Mark Schick, forget to write a melody like a good sun, full of hooks memorable and that knows how to finish well on top.
In ‘Born with a Broken Heart’ Damiano presents the portrait of a man who feels incapable of love. He wants to love like every human being, but he can’t. Damiano lets out one of those phrases that are pure involuntary humor (“If I were a cactus, you would be a balloon”) but, above all, ‘Born with a Broken Heart’ is the image of a tormented man. Of course, dressed in a suit. In the video, Damiano and his female partner dance with a movie set in the background.
Damiano has just presented ‘Born with a Broken Heart’ on American television, on Jimmy Fallon’s show:
