Cyn is not exactly resting on her laurels in ‘I Don’t Care’

American Cyn, who we met years ago as a disciple of Katy Perry and a fan of the Detroit sound, has already published the A-side of her new album, the first or the second, depending on whether you consider it ‘Mood Swing’. That release had 7 songs, with the hit ballad ‘I’ll Still Have Me’ standing out.

The new album ‘Valley Girl’ is presented by a first part called ‘Lost on Laurel’, composed of 6 songs (side A), which will be completed on November 15th. This week on Ready for the Weekend we presented a composition called ‘Lemon’, very catchy. But starting from the beginning, we selected ‘I Don’t Care’ as Song of the Day.

Featuring a guitar riff that’s a bit like Smashing Pumpkins circa ‘1979’ (the song, not the year, of course), ‘I Don’t Care’ may be a hit with current Olivia Rodrigo fans. Halfway between grunge and total pop, it also features a fun video in a supermarket. And that cart full of oranges can only be reminiscent of No Doubt’s ‘Tragic Kingdom’.

From its title, ‘I Don’t Care’, to its melody, the song is a liberation anthem, and one sung with a certain amount of humour. Note rhymes like “you can’t force me, darth vadar / dropped ya like a hot potato”, followed by chorus-worthy lines like “I DON’T HATE YOU”.
