Coldplay achieve another number 1 on the Spanish album chart with their new album ‘Moon Music’. The album has also reached top 1 in the United Kingdom – where it is his 10th top 1 – and in territories such as the United States, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, Holland and Belgium. Among the territories where it has been at number 2, Canada and Australia, but the success is total.
If we stick to Spain, this is his 4th number 1 album after those achieved by “Viva la Vida”, ‘Ghost Stories’ and ‘Music of the Spheres’. It must be remembered that in our country Coldplay’s first albums were “sleepers” that lasted a long time on the charts but did not reach the top per se. ‘Parachutes’ and ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ sold more than 50,000 copies in Spain despite not having gone beyond positions 31 and 9. This is Coldplay’s history in our country, EP’s included:
-Parachutes 31
-A Rush of Blood to the Head 9
-X&Y 2
-Viva la Vida and Death and All His Friends 1
-Prospekt March EP 41
-Mylo Xyloto 3
-Ghost Stories 1
-A Head Full of Dreams 2
-Kaleidoscope EP 2
-Everyday Life 3
-Music of the Spheres 1
-Moon Music 1
The second most important entry this week is that of Paula Koops with ‘Motel’ at number 11. And the third, that of León Benavente, who reaches number 16 with the notable ‘New Symphony About Chaos’. It is not their best record, since ‘2’ reached number 5 and both ‘Vamos a gorse locas’ and ‘Era’ reached number 2, although we must remember that they approach this new album from self-publishing. León Benavente also does get number 2 on vinyl these days, only behind the new Coldplay release.
‘Cutouts’ by The Smile reaches number 23 in our country. The album is number 7 in the United Kingdom and number 52 in the United States. Among the countries that have best welcomed it are Holland (rank 4), Belgium (numbers 7 and 10 in Flanders and Wallonia) and Germany (number 14). The previous ‘Wall of Eyes’ achieved better data in all territories, including number 1 in Holland, number 3 in the UK and number 12 in Spain, from which a certain fatigue of the audience can be deduced, which perhaps has interpreted the new album as its B-side or its outtakes, having been released in the same year.
The list of Spanish entries of the week is completed with ‘Antes de’ by Alejo at number 35, the soundtrack of ‘Joker: Folie à deux’ at number 44, the excellent ‘Now!’ by Biznaga at number 55 and ‘For Cryin’ Out Loud’ by Finneas at number 89. Finneas’ album has been number 35 in the United Kingdom and number 82 on the Billboard 200. Holland is also where he is most loved: number 9 .
It should also be noted that ‘Mastercaster’ by Midas Alonso and Delson Aravena experiences the strongest rise, going from 96th to 25th place in what is the first week that it is fully counted.
