Chloe Qisha is a “21st century cool chick”

Chloe Qisha is a Malaysian singer and songwriter based in the United Kingdom who is building an interesting pop repertoire. Their biggest hit to date, ‘I Lied, I’m Sorry’, is a catchy homage to the Talking Heads/LCD Soundsystem sound. On the other hand, ‘VCR Home Video’ is committed to introspection through the piano.

Both cuts appear on Chloe Qisha’s self-titled debut EP, published in the last months of 2024 and which also includes the outstanding single ‘Sexy Goodbye’, whose sound, this time, sounds indebted to Giorgio Moroder and the disco music of the 80.

Chloe Qisha – whose real name is Chloe Qi Sha Lim – writes her songs with her trusted composer, the British Rob Milton, who can be found in song credits for The 1975 (‘All I Need to Hear’), Holly Humberstone (‘Falling Asleep at the Wheel’) or hard life (‘skeletons’). A multinational, Sony, is behind this new talent.

Qisha’s latest effort is ’21st Century Cool Girl’, a piano pop shot that you will like if you like the first Marina and the Diamonds and, above all, the latest Olivia Rodrigo. Specifically, that of ‘Vampire’. It’s the Song of the Day.

“I may sound exaggerated, but I’m afraid of dying… if you don’t hug me tight” is the 100% Olivia Rodrigo phrase left by ’21st Century Cool Girl’. The lyrics are pure teenage drama, as “teenager” is the magazine that Chloe reads in one of the scenes she describes in it. Chloe sees her crush arrive “like something out of Dawson’s Creek” and her “breath catches.” Chloe offers herself as a suitor but warns: “I will be tragically insecure, but if you are prepared to love me, I am all yours.” The video clip is now available.
