Carly Gibert, on tour, is the Catalan who writes for Lisa and Jennie

Carly Gibert is one of the secrets of the American music industry, but she is Catalan, specifically from Cambrils, a town in Tarragona. Gibert started in music raising artists like Beyoncé and his voice conquered 10:22 pm/def jam, a subsidiary seal of Universal Music Group, who signed it. The result was that, with 16 years, Gibert moved from Cambrils to Los Angeles to develop his talent.

Carly Gibert’s singles, such as ‘Dropping Seeds’ or ‘Woo / Run It’, have been happening at least since 2018 and contain an obvious influence of hip-hop, Anglo-Saxon rap and pop. ‘Lavish’, everyone’s Synth-Pop, sounds ready to invade the radio. And you just have to listen to Gibert’s diction singing to make sure that he has lived years in the United States speaking. In 2022, Gibert published his debut album, ‘Tabula Rasa’.

Although Gibert has decided in the last year to break his link with a multinational and “return to Cambrils” to “embrace artistic freedom”, her work as a composer has now emerged in the pop mainstream through two of the greatest pop macrolanzos of the year, those of the companions in Blackpink Lisa and Jennie. Gibert co-writes, in Lisa’s album, the ‘Rapunzel’ cut and, in Jennie, appears in up to three cuts, including the single ‘Love Hangover’, in addition to ‘FTS’ and ‘Seoul City’. Of course, a Spaniard, rapper Enry-K, collaborated with Gibert before anyone else in ‘Bumbumbum’ (a song).

But that Gibert publishes music now independently does not mean that his songs have lost the international finish of before, much less their experimental curiosity. ‘Jennifer Lawrence’, the main single of his 2024 ‘Thank God Things Change’, was very powerful, and more powerful is the single that Gibert has launched this 2025.

‘Everything New’, song of the day, sounds like everything that pop in 2025 should bring: freshness, adventure, experimentation, “all new” in short. The basis of ‘Everything New’ Hybrid Hip-hop influences, tribal rhythms and psychedelia, would tickle Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot and is all that Dja Cat was looking for in his last album. The video clip has been edited by herself on her iPhone and is crazy.

Carly Gibert will present ‘Thank God Things Change’ this March in Spain, on Thursday, March 20 in the Clamores room in Madrid and on Friday, March 21 in the Laut’s room in Barcelona.
