After several years in active, the Spanish-Latin band Çantamarta continues to advance songs from what will be his first full-length album. This time it is the single “Michaló”, a song that tells a story based on real events.
“Michaló” tells us about “a young love story interrupted by migration. While one of the parties leaves, the one who stays composes a happy farewell song in verses, wishing the best of luck to her ‘other half’ while earnestly asking her not to be forgotten. It’s a song that explodes with energy that has you dancing from the first moment you hear it, but that also allows you to find yourself in its vulnerability and that makes it such a special piece for the group’s universe.”
It is an autobiographical song since its name is taken from the word “Chalo”, a diminutive that family and friends use to refer to the mother of LuisLo, the group’s singer. He talks about his first love and how the armed conflict in Colombia in the early nineties led him to leave his city –Santa Marta– to go to Venezuela, which meant he had to close a stage in his life. The song uses a Caribbean champeta rhythm and combines it with the group’s current perspective.
The video clip is again directed by Lena Zafra and Adri Sola and it shows a group of women dancing for a farewell party following the Caribbean tradition. Çantamarta will be presenting their debut album –which will be released on October 11– at WiZink Hall in Madrid on October 18thand then went on to play in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela.
