Halsey’s ‘Lucky’, with its reference to Britney Spears’ song of the same name, has been one of the most talked about new releases of this Friday. A few hours after its release, a message on Britney’s official account left the world stunned. The singer said she felt “harassed and violated” by the use Halsey had made of her song, specifically in her music video.
Halsey’s video contrasts the life of a star with that of a little girl at home dreaming of being someone. There are also images of Halsey undergoing treatment for the illness she was diagnosed with a couple of years ago, and from which she has since recovered. Her upcoming album speaks to that.
Spears’ words, referring to the ‘Lucky’ video, were something like: “I didn’t know that an artist like her and someone I looked up to would portray me in such an ignorant way, as a shallow pop star with no heart or concern at all. I have my own health issues and that’s why I closed my Instagram yesterday. I’m putting it back online because I CARE. I’m talking to my lawyers to see what we can do about this. It seems illegal and above all cruel.”
As the world was rubbing its eyes, Britney decided to delete the post, assuring that it was not her who had written it: «Fake news. It wasn’t me on my phone. I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it.»
In a display of politeness and savoir-faire, Halsey responded that she loves Britney: “I do and I always have. You were the first person who made me realize what it means to be inspired. And you continue to inspire me every day.”
Britney Spears says she did not post the statement claiming she was singing Halsey over her song “Lucky,” which interpolates Spears’ classic hit of the same name:
