Boreal 2024 adds dance, art and industry to its diverse program

In its seventeenth edition the Boreal Festival It shines with its own light as a benchmark in sustainability and cultural diversity. From September 18th to 22nd the historic center of The Silos (Tenerife) will host a wide musical programme, which this year will include art and dance. The music industry will also have its guiding light at Boreal with an international meeting of professionals.

About to celebrate two decades, the Boreal Festival has marked a milestone in the Canary Islands, being a pioneer in the integration of the sustainability and the gender perspective in its organisation and development. This multidisciplinary event not only celebrates music, but also promotes a wide range of activities including workshops, discussions, exhibitions, markets, urban art and environmental awareness efforts.

Recognized as one of the most important eco-festivals in Spain, Boreal has been awarded the Fest Prize for the best festival in diversity and gender equality. This recognition highlights the festival’s commitment to inclusion and equity, making it a benchmark at a national level.

Its seventeenth edition will take place From September 18th to 22nd in the historic center of The Silosa unique town in the north of Tenerife, famous for its baths and natural spaces. An idyllic spot from which to observe the cultural firmament of the entire planet.

Diverse musical program

The musical lineup for the Boreal Festival 2024 stands out for its diversity and the richness of genres it presents, bringing together artists from various parts of the world, which reinforces its prestige as one of the most important cultural events in Spain. Among the international names that are part of the festival are figures such as Rodrigo Cuevas with its fusion of traditional Asturian music with electronic sounds, and J Noawho adds a fresh dimension with his unique style. Also notable are Iseo & Dodosound with its sound that mixes dub, reggae and electronics, as well as the Brazilian group Francis The Man and the Nigerian band Bombinowhich brings the sound of the desert with its Tuareg rock.

The festival not only offers a global panorama, but also highlights local talent, with a significant representation of artists from the Canary Islands. Names such as Mariana, Nala Rami, Mary Upside Down and the combination of Ruts & La Isla Music with Dactah Chando and Isa Izquierdoshow the musical wealth of the archipelago. In addition, artists such as Julia Rodriguez, Hannibal & Lajalada and Marilia Monzon They help the poster to strike a balance between the global and the local.

Boreal embraces art and dance

The 17th edition of Boreal kicks off on September 6 with the opening of the exhibition We, Latin Americans. This is a selection of the most renowned muralists and visual artists from all over America. All of them have previously participated in the Boreal Festival and in 2024 they will come together collectively in this unprecedented Group Show in Los Silos. It will be exhibited in the Pérez Enríquez Room of the former convent of San Sebastián de Los Silos, Tenerife. Fefe Talavera (Brazil), Fio Silva (Argentina), Florence Duran Itzaina (Uruguay), Gleo (Colombia), k2man(Colombia), Ledania (Colombia), Lili Cuca (Colombia), Lourdes Villagomez (Mexico), Sara Fratini (Venezuela) and Stfi (Chile) are the ten visual and urban artists who will be present at this exhibition.

On the other hand, the dance It is another discipline that shines at Boreal 2024 thanks to an artistic residency and unprecedented collaboration with Loyal LAV. This process will be carried out by the Italian dancer Maria Luisa Usaiwithin the framework of the project Creative Europe ISLAND CONNECT through the LAV (Laboratory of Living Arts and Citizenship). Usai’s work is entitled Peasant.

Cardinal point of the industry

Since its birth, Boreal has been establishing itself as a meeting point for connecting professionals from the Canary Islands with important agents and programmers from other parts of the world. In this way, it enables the creation of new avenues for professional development for artists and agencies from the Islands. This effort is crystallised this year with the celebration of a meetingprofessionally decorated cwith Canarian artists and music agents, and with the presence and participation of three important international music programmers, producers and consultants: Alexandra Archetti (Norway), Paula Rivera (Argentina) and Elena Beltrami (United Kingdom)

The Boreal Festival is organised by Folelé Producciones and is sponsored by the Los Silos Town Council, the Government of the Canary Islands through Promotur Turismo Islas Canarias, the Vice-Ministry of Culture and the Canary Islands Institute for Cultural Development, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Fight against Climate Change, and the General Directorate of Youth, as well as the Cabildo de Tenerife through Turismo de Tenerife, the Ministry of Culture and Foreign Action. It is also financed with European funds, through the Next Generation EU Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. Other organisations, entities and companies collaborate.
