Body Organic Disco Electronic: the world of Babymorocco

Babymorocco is the alias of British singer, producer and performance artist Clayton Pettet. Active since 2013, Petter uses the name Babymorocco to release his musical projects, based on a purely electro and club sound. Her influences point both to the electroclash of the 2000s and to Marina Abramović.

Pettet began in the world of performance, and in 2014 – at the age of 19 – he presented his work Art School Stole My Virginity. Pettet announced that, during his performance, he would lose his virginity in front of the audience, although this did not happen. In reality, Pettet urged the audience to “penetrate” their mouths with bananas and used his platform to reflect on the concept of virginity, in which he does not believe. DAZED narrates what happened in the performance in a chronicle of the time.

A decade later, the artist born in Casablanca but raised in England has created Babymorocco to indulge in the fast-paced rhythms of electronic music that he discovered in his adolescence, and that “changes his life” when he attends a trance party for under 18 years old.

In 2023, Babymorocco releases its first EP, ‘The Sound’, which includes the hit ‘Everyone’, and this same December 6 it released its debut album, ‘Amour’, through the True Panther label, current home of Christopher Owens , Oklou or Bbymutha.

In ‘Amour’ the electro rhythms of ‘Mon Amour’ coexist with the EDM of the first Lady Gaga in ‘Red Eye’ or the Arabic R&B of the 2000s in ‘Rocco’. Above all, ‘Amour’ is a feast of dirty, naughty electroclash beats that you’ll like if you like Die Antwoord or COBRAH. And if ‘Bikinis and Trackies’ reminds you a little of 100gecs or the latest Charli xcx, it’s because it’s a collaboration with glitchcore duo Frost Children. It’s the Song of the Day for today, Tuesday.

‘Bikinis and Trackies’ is another great piece from Babymorocco designed to set the dance floor on fire. On the one hand, the beat is a spectacle of crazy percussion and electro sabers. On the other hand, the lyrics are a self-portrait – from the club – of that hypermuscled artist who appears in the promotional photographs and video clips. He can’t “hide” his body under his tracksuit, so he shows it off, pulls his boxers high up and poses as if he were a “soldier.” “Do the World War Two,” he repeats, as if it were a dance.

‘Really Hot’, ‘Body Organic Disco Electronic’ and ‘Really Cheap’, a collaboration with the Madrid-based TRISTAN!, are other singles included in ‘Amour’, the debut of an artist who has also collaborated with The Dare -producer of ‘ Guess’ by Charli xcx- on a remix of ‘Automatic’, and with Jockstrap on a remix of ‘Sexy’. All of them share, deep down, the same universe.
