Recovering the classic sense of what used to be an album campaign, Dorian have released a new single this month taken from ‘Impossible Futures’. We’re talking about the album they released at the end of last year. The chosen one is ‘Por ti’, which we talked about with Marc in this video podcast (minute 64).
In that podcast we promised that if there was a video of the song it would be “Song of the Day” on JENESAISPOP et voila. Marc states that they had been trying for some time to convince Belly to sing a Dorian song alone – he talks about “two attempts” – and recognizes this song as a “great moment” from their latest live shows.
‘Por ti’ is the first song that Belly sings in Dorian’s career, and it is the one that best encapsulates his sentimental – non-professional – breakup with the co-leader of the group, Marc Gili. It is obvious that it is therefore one of the most charming compositions of ‘Impossible Futures’ and one of the public’s favorites outside of streams.
Like other great Dorian recordings, it draws on Italian beats, of course the techno-pop of the 80s, and a little bit of the ‘Drive’ soundtrack. Or perhaps I am suggested by the recently released video clip in which Marc Gili appears driving a somewhat improbable car. The piece was recorded in the outskirts of Barcelona and is the work of the young director Marcel Sesplugues and the artistic studio specializing in digital art Desilence, founded by Tatiana Halbach and Søren Christensen.
Dorian will close the first part of the tour to present ‘Impossible Futures’ in Latin America: Mexico City (November 13), Lima (November 20), Buenos Aires (November 22), Valladolid (November 29) and Córdoba (Argentina) (February 14).
