beabadoobee enters the UK’s number 1 album spot with ‘This is How Tomorrow Moves’, her third album. She displaces Chappell Roan, who reached number 1 on the UK’s album charts last week, also with an album released in September 2023, proof of her growing popularity. She was fighting for number 1 with Charli xcx, who ultimately finished second.
‘This is How Tomorrow Moves’ has sold 11,714 equivalent units in the UK in its week of release. Of this figure, the majority of sales, 10,566 units, are physical sales. In addition, the album has 1,062 streaming points and 86 downloads, reports UKMix.
beabadoobee can be considered an alternative generational icon after the success, a few years ago, of her single ‘Coffee’, sampled in the most famous lo-fi song in history. In fact, the British singer is used to placing her albums within the top 10 of the British album chart; ‘Beatopia’, her second album, reached number 4 in 2022, and ‘Fake it Flowers’, her debut, was at number 8.
Longevity is now the challenge for beabadoobee, who has no single from the album in the UK Singles Chart… unlike Chappell Roan, who has two, ‘Hot to Go’ (12) and ‘Red Wine Supernova’ (31), plus the follow-up single, ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ (3). ‘Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head)’, beabadoobee’s biggest hit, shared with Powfu, reached number four.
beabadoobee has had a number of other singles charted in the UK, including the lead single from her new album, ‘Take a Bite’, which peaked at number 68 a few weeks ago. ‘Glue Song’, her duet with Clairo, is her biggest hit, peaking at number 38. After that, ‘A Night to Remember’, her single with Laufey, peaked at number 84 and ‘The Way Things Go’ was number 86.
