Ariana Grande turns the page on ‘Wicked’ after two films promoted in one of the most talked about, fun and surreal film campaigns in memory, and confirms her return to the theater with her partner in ‘Wicked’, Jonathan Bailey.
Both will star again in a musical: a theatrical adaptation of ‘Sunday in the Park with George’, the famous 1984 play, which can be seen at the Barbican in London in the summer of 2027. We imagine that getting tickets will be a life or death struggle.
It is a musical written by James Lapine, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, whose story is inspired by Georges Pierre Seurat’s famous painting ‘Sunday Afternoon on the Island of Grande Jatte’, painted between 1884 and 1886. Grande and Bailey have confirmed their participation in the project by photographing themselves sitting in front of said work.
The adaptation of ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ is Grande’s first confirmed project for 2027, since it is worth remembering that the artist will be on tour during 2026 presenting her album ‘eternal sunshine’ (2024) and its reissue, with the last date scheduled for August. There are only 10 dates concentrated in the United States, Canada and London.
Of course, this is not the first time Grande has participated in the theater: in 2008 she debuted on Broadway with the musical ’13’ and in 2016 she performed in ‘Hairspray Live!’, broadcast on television.
