Too elaborate to be an April Fools’ joke. The Strokes seem to have launched the release strategy for their next album, which would be the successor to the project released in 2020, ‘The New Abnormal’. At the moment, it is only known that the band will try to “share something very soon.”
Last night, Julian Casablancas’ band published a link on their Instagram page illustrated with a pixelated notebook in the style of a 90s computer. When clicking, the user is redirected to another web page where a text box appears to leave your phone number and an illustration, also vintage, with four horses dragging a cassette tape. If this isn’t indicative it’s something music related.
When entering the phone number, users received an SMS message: “We are glad you are here,” it reads. The band also makes a promise to “share something very soon.” Theories that point to a new album by The Strokes are not so far-fetched after taking a look at both the background and their busy schedule in 2026.
The Strokes will be at different festivals throughout the year, and in various parts of the world, from the United States to Japan. This month, they announced two headline shows in San Francisco ahead of their appearance at Coachella. On the other hand, Rick Rubin already confirmed in 2022 that he had been working on a new album for the band in Costa Rica, describing the experience as “incredible.” This was also corroborated by the members themselves.
🚨 URGENT: The Strokes start a mysterious campaign via Laylo, a site used by artists for exclusive releases and announcements, suggesting the start of a new era of the band or even a new release. Fãs se cadastraram já start to receive direct messages… 👀… pic.twitter.com/i3Amlsqn7S
