An unreleased live performance by Camarón with Tomatito is released

He was a lost gem for his followers. The concert that Shrimp starred alongside Tomasito at the San Mateo Festival in Oviedo in 1991 had circulated in small, low-quality pills. Now, finally, it will become an official release with the required quality.

“Oviedo, San Mateo 1991” will see the light tomorrow Friday, November 29 in digital format and in various physical formats by the hand of Universal. The performance is considered a historic concert that was held on September 13, 1991 in the Buenavista Bullring on the occasion of the festivities of San Mateo (Oviedo).

Produced by Camarón’s eldest son, Luis Monjethis recording has been mastered in Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallonewho have in their resume mastering work on albums by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Patty Smith, David Bowie, The National, The War On Drugs, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Smile, Lady Gaga & Toni Bennett and Arcade Fire.

As for the physical formats, it will be released on a limited edition LP (140 gram black vinyl with a random color folder. The ten options are: red, blue, green, turquoise, lime green, orange, pink, gray, fuchsia, purple), CD (jewelcase) and cassette in limited edition. The limited edition vinyl and CD edition include a booklet in which a series of contemporary Spanish artists (Antonio Arias, Antonio Carmona, Jaime Urrutia, Bunbury, Anni B Sweet, C. Tangana, Rufus T.Firefly, La Zowi, Estopa o Rosaliaamong many others) give (in an unpublished choral story directed by journalist Nacho Serrano) their vision of the myth, legend and artistic legacy of Camarón. The details of that night in Oviedo are also recalled through the testimonies of protagonists and witnesses who were there, such as Tomatito, Boby García (sound technician in charge of the concert) and Javier Blanco (journalist who covered the concert with his chronicle for the newspaper La Nueva España). The booklet is illustrated with unpublished photos belonging to sessions from the legendary photographer’s archive. Pepe Lamarca and press clippings about the concert belonging to the archive of the newspaper La Nueva España.

As for the repertoire, it includes “I am that smuggler (Alegrías)”, “A mine from Asturias (Tarantos/Mineras)”, “Drinking wine” (Bulerías), “They taste like candy to me (Tangos)” and “Your kisses are mine (Fandangos)”.
