Tonight Amaia’s new single, ‘Tocotó’, was released. From the interjection of ‘Nanai’, Romero goes directly to using an onomatopoeia in the title of this new single, which is inspired by Marisol’s ‘Corre, corre caballito’ (1960). Its authors, Alfredo and Gregorio García Segura, are accredited.
Amaia, who already covered ‘Me conformo’ at the Operación Triunfo Academy, and has always cited Pepa Flores in her main references, appropriates ‘Corre, corre caballito’ to give it a contemporary spin and insert it into her own experience in the music industry. From “run, run, little horse, I want to be first” it goes to “now that we’re getting there, I see that this is no race.”
Musically, ‘Tocotó’ surprises once again thanks to a production that begins with the -literal- gallop of a horse, and that evolves towards a rhythm inspired by British garage, like so many current national and international productions.
The video clip for ‘Tocotó’, directed by Daniel Dalfó, that is, Daniel 2000 of Mainline Magic Orchestra, is made up of a collection of “stories” of Amaia performing ‘Tocotó’ in different costumes and settings. In one of them, Amaia appears riding a horse.
‘Tocotó’ is the second official single from Amaia’s new album, which remains to be officially announced. The name of the tour, ‘if I open my eyes it’s not real’, could also give the album its title, but this detail is unknown for now. Will Friday be the day the album is finally announced?
The first confirmed presentation concerts for Amaia’s third album are on February 21 and 22 at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and on February 23 at the Wizink Center in Madrid. JENESAISPOP is the official media of the Madrid date. We remind you that there are no more tickets left for the first event announced in Barcelona, on February 21.
In another vein, Amaia attended the Vogue Fashion Fund gala this week, at the Casa de las Artes in Madrid, and there she sat at the piano to offer an intimate performance of ‘Nanai’ and ‘Zorongo gitano’.
