Around 300 personalities from the world of culture, including Almodóvar, Coixet, Rozalén and Andreu Buenafuente, have signed a letter to ask Pedro Sánchez for a “comprehensive arms embargo on Israel.”
Dozens of figures from cinema, music and television have come together to convey to Sánchez their concern “for the serious situation of oppression and violence suffered by the Palestinian people under the genocide and regime of apartheid and Israeli occupation,” the letter begins.
Ignacio Escolar, Alba Flores, Hugo Silva, Luis Tosar, Pepe Viyuela and Roberto Leal are some of the people who have contributed to the cause. Rozalén and Mikel Izal are the two most important names in the world of music on the list, but Boikot, Chikos del Maíz, El Kanka, Lluís Llach, Marwán, Paco Ibáñez and David Lafuente, among others, have also joined.
«The provision of weapons and ammunition from Spain, the transit of weapons and military fuel through our territory and the purchase of military material contribute to perpetuating the occupation and financing a genocide against the Palestinian people, and increase the loss of life and suffering. of civilians,” the letter continues.
This clarifies that the embargo would not only be “a moral imperative, but also an obligation under international law”: “We know that it is in your hands,” they write, referring to the President of the Government. They also demand that he “champion the defense of human rights and international law at a global level.”
“On an international level, Spain has stood out as a country that has positioned itself in favor of peace and the Palestinian people,” he continues. However, they clarify that “it is not enough”: “As long as Spain continues to have military relations with Israel, it will continue to be complicit in this massacre,” they warn.
