Alison Goldfrapp is still on the dance floor in “I Wanna Be Loved”

Just over a year after releasing ‘The Love Invention’, her first solo album, and one of the Best Albums of 2023, Alison Goldfrapp releases new music. ‘I Wanna Be Loved (Just A Little Better)’ is the first release on her own record label, AG Records.

This is a new collaboration between Goldfrapp and Richard X, co-producer of much of ‘The Love Invention’, including ‘NeverStop’, and it is the Song Of The Day for today, Thursday.

Alison Goldfrapp is still on the dance floor, saying she’s “not ready to leave it yet” and, on ‘I Wanna Be Loved (Just A Little Better)’, she delivers an unmistakable “bop” that mixes synth-pop and electropop as only she knows how. The production line is the same as ‘The Love Invention’, but the pink synths on ‘I Wanna Be Loved (Just A Little Better)’ also evoke the sound of ‘Head First’ (2010).

On ‘I Wanna Be Loved (Just A Little Better)’, Goldfrapp’s magnetic melody and Richard X’s effervescent synths converge in a danceable ode to the urgency of love. Goldfrapp “can’t wait any longer” and can’t “spend her life dreaming” – she wants her love to be real. She knows what she has is “something serious” and doesn’t want to “rush it.”

With Alison busy with her solo project, it seems that a new album from Goldfrapp, her band with Will Gregory, is not in the near future plans for either of them. Goldfrapp’s last album, ‘Silver Eye’, was released in 2017. Gregory will soon release an album with Adrian Utley of Portishead.
