What the colorful Spice Girls reissue brings for its 30th anniversary

Spice Girls had published a teaser announcing news that pointed to a relaunch of their music, and voilà: a new box arrives for their 30th anniversary. It’s called ‘The Singles Collection’ and it brings back all their singles, from ‘Wannabe’ to that low single that was ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’, with B-sides, rare remixes and unreleased material. It is published for Christmas, on November 6, in two editions, one on CD and the other on vinyl.

And thank goodness there is unreleased material, because their three albums didn’t seem to be enough either. The main attraction of the box set is the never-released demos: the CD edition brings together four, including ‘Do You Think About Me’, one of the Spice Girls’ first recordings. The vinyl edition includes two of them. For a group with such a limited discography, discovering what Spice were doing even before ‘Wannabe’ seems more interesting than another compilation of their hits.

‘Step To Me’ and ‘Tell Me Why’ also receive special treatment, with albums dedicated to both editions. ‘Step To Me’ originally appeared in 1997 in a Pepsi campaign. ‘Tell Me Why’ was going to be the third single from ‘Forever’ in 2000, but those plans were canceled and it is now receiving single treatment 26 years later.

The two boxes reproduce the original covers of the 14 releases and include five collectible postcards, a numbered card, a commemorative acrylic charm and a booklet with new messages from the five Spice Girls. The vinyl edition will have 28 pages and the CD edition will have 32. Enough to flip through while you think about the reunion tour that WILL NOT happen.
