Zahara and Laaza expose machismo in the bittersweet ‘Minifalda’

You all already know Zahara. And to Laaza, you should. Their songs are beautiful, and their live performance is amazing. Today both come together in a joint song called ‘Minifalda’. It’s our Song of the Day, topping our new playlist “Ready for the Weekend.”

Behind this pop title, so summery; Behind this sweet melody… hides a very bitter song that tells a story of harassment and machismo in a society dominated by patriarchy.

The lyrics are very clear and go straight to the jugular: at 13 years old you want to wear “miniskirts like the girls on television.” Men rub up on you on the school bus “with a weird bulge in their pants.” As for sex, a friend teaches you “how to finish quickly and not have to endure the pain for too long.” At 8:00 PM they tell you that “you’ve asked yourself” for trouble “for walking alone at night and with brown peaks.” At 30 “you are already too old” for anything.

What happened to the stalker who rubbed up against a minor on the bus? Of course nothing: “his life for pleasure, my life for suffering / I think he won’t regret it, the world always works like that.”

A story of social injustice, in which the only “sweet” point is its harmony, memorable from the first listen. That is its main weapon to sneak into playlists and into your brain, also in tune with other Laaza compositions that already combined acoustic sounds with shotguns and suicides. It was the case of ‘First love’.

In networks, Laaza has thanked Zahara for her collaboration, as he considers her one of his “greatest references.” There is only one but… If the song is written alone by Laaza, is it possible that we will hear more from Zahara? Or are their voices so similar?
