AVROTROS, a public radio and television association in the Netherlands, which is part of NPO, has announced that it will not participate in Eurovision 2027. In 2026 this country was already left out – like Spain – due to the participation of Israel, and this could be the case again in 2027.
In recent weeks there have been movements in the organization of Eurovision regarding the rules, and a country at war will no longer be able to organize the contest; and as for sponsorships, Moroccanoil has terminated its agreement with the festival.
However, this is not enough for the Netherlands institution, which considers that “the event can no longer be considered neutral as there is a participating country that is still involved in a large-scale military conflict.”
However, as Eurovision Spain explains, the NPO could turn to another Dutch public television to maintain the country’s participation. That is, the NPO has yet to decide whether the Netherlands will withdraw from the contest or attend in another way. For now they have limited themselves to communicating: «We also see that geopolitical tensions have a divisive effect. Therefore, this has not been an easy decision for our colleagues at AVROTROS. We will reflect on the next edition and we will return to it at the appropriate time.”
At the moment, 21 countries have confirmed their participation in Eurovision, which will be held between May 11 and 15, 2027 in Bulgaria. Among them is Israel, and also Canada, which is making its debut in Eurovision. The provisional list of participants and countries in doubt is permanently updated on the English-speaking Wikipedia.
