Olivia Rodrigo has officially shared the single “Serena Joy”, which can be considered her most political song to date. The track was previously released in a limited edition at a single store in Tustin, California.
A few days ago, Olivia Rodrigo put five hundred limited edition copies of a compact disc which included the song “Serena Joy.” It could only be obtained at the Analog record store in Tustin (California), a town near the town where the event will be held. Daisy Chain Fields Festival organized by the artist herself. Obviously, they sold out within a few hours.
At the festival, which will be held this Saturday, August 29, none other than Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Bikini Kill, Die Spitz, Garbage, The Breeders, Santigold and even a performance with special guests from Olivia Rodrigo as Karen O, Sarah McLachlan and Stevie Nicks.
The good news is that the song is now on platforms. The name of the track refers to Serena Joy Waterford, protagonist of the popular dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale” by the Canadian writer Margaret Atwoodoriginally published in 1985 and converted into a Netflix series a few years ago.
The song talks about an oppressive and cruel political system that works for the benefit of the politicians who run it, something that can be compared to the political situation in the current United States, in the words of Rodrigo. A part of the profits from the theme and the festival will go to the Daisy Chain Fieldsthe artist’s own foundation to support and defend the rights of women and girls.
