Audrey Hobert is starting to succeed now with ‘Sue Me’

A few months ago, Pablo Tocino reviewed for our website the album by Audrey Hobert, a colleague of Gracie Abrams who was trying it on her own after having co-written ‘That’s So True’. The song ‘Sue Me’ even had a small stint in our humble weekly top 40.

However, it is now that the song is going viral in Anglo-Saxon countries. This week it rises to number 29 in the United Kingdom and is its highest. It has also penetrated other markets such as the United States (top 92), Ireland, Australia and Canada. It’s our Song of the Day today.

If Audrey Hobert’s voice is slightly reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s, ‘Sue Me’ delves into the territories of eighties electropop in a way that the author of ‘1989’ did not fully dare to, not even at the time of ‘Styles’. It’s a very clear bop.

Released in May 2025 as Audrey Hobert’s debut, the song is about the longing to be desired again after a breakup. Hobert said she wrote it a week after reconnecting with someone she had dated, and about feeling desired again. From there comes its chorus “sue me, I wanna be wanted”, while the rest portrays the reunion at a party where alcohol rules – specifically rum – and includes the stellar phrase “fucking your ex is iconic.”

We leave you with the video made by herself and with the Tiny Desk that has just been published these days.
