Antonio Arias has published “Map of trance”a new solo work composed of nine songs in which the musician delves into the Moroccan tradition to make it dialogue with typically Andalusian sounds.
The album collects the process started in 2018 with “Mawlid”, the project developed together with Moncho Rodríguez and focused on the exploration of Gnawa music, a tradition of sub-Saharan origin historically linked to trance and considered one of the fundamental influences of blues.
Among the songs included are the previews “Bermasouyé” and “Ciudad sin Sueño”, two pieces that condense a good part of the spirit of the album. In the first, Arias reinterprets a song from the Gnawa repertoire together with the voice of Arafa Chaarawhile the second transfers verses from Federico García Lorca to a soundscape built between the medina of Tetouan and contemporary electrical resonances. The album also features the participation of Khalid Sansi, Tarwa N Tiniri and Bachir Attar, member of The Master Musicians of Jajouka.
With this work, Antonio Arias continues a trajectory marked by the constant search and exploration of new musical languages. Since its beginnings in 091 until his journey with Nick Lizard and his solo projects, the Granada-born musician has developed a discography that crosses different currents of experimental rock and avant-garde sound.
With “Map of trance”, Arias opens a new path within her career, connecting two close traditions from an open and experimental perspective.
