Charli XCX publishes the first preview of the true successor to ‘brat’, after the success of the ‘Wuthering Heights’ soundtrack. If in the teaser that the British artist published, we saw her destroying an electric guitar with her heels, the video and the song deconstruct many of the rock clichés.
‘Rock Music’ is released along with its video, so it is already inseparable from it. In the 2-minute audiovisual piece, Charli
AG Cook is co-responsible for some production tricks, similar to those of Blur’s ‘On Your Own’ in what may be his particular “Song 2”. The REMs of ‘Monster’, L7, Chicks on Speed or Peaches could be other references. The song takes us, then, to the 90s, a little before ‘1999’, as cool as that anthem by Charli XCX, although for very different reasons.
The lyrics of what is our Song of the Day today already appeared in the mini documentary available on Charli’s Instagram profile: “My friends and I / We go out / We take photos / We do things together / Sometimes we cry / We kiss / It’s incest,” it was read as a definition of what “rock music” is for her.
