The Getafe City Council seeks to cancel the Mad Cool Festival

According to media outlets such as The Worldhe Getafe City Council seeks the cancellation of the tenth anniversary of Mad Cool Festival due to excess noise, although it would not be the only event in danger.

The City Council of the Madrid town argues that an event like this or Shakira’s concerts represent a “direct attack on the rest and safety of more than 32,000 Getafe residents.” Their intention is to challenge the license granted by the Madrid City Council for the celebration of the Mad Cool Festival at the Iberdrola Music venue, which should be held in just two months. The City Council considers that its celebration will represent a history of acoustic measurements that will have a direct impact on the municipality.

Sara Hernández, mayor of Getafense, has insisted that the data “is devastating.” So they have decided to demand the cancellation of the event scheduled to take place on July 8 to 11. Now the unknown is what will happen to Mad Cool Festival, which in this edition will celebrate its ten years of experience and which may see its original location in danger, with everything that comes with moving a four-day festival.

These complaints would be added to previous ones officially presented by the Stop Mad Cool Platform and by the Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid, who have also denounced the interest in “converting this space into a permanent fairground.” They also report that Iberdrola Music has increased its programming from four festival days to a total of seventeen days already confirmed for this season.

According to statements reported in El Mundo, Mayor Sara Hernández has pointed out that: “It cannot be that the residents of the Bernabéu in Madrid or the City of Arts in Valencia have more rights than those of Getafe or Villaverde. They deserve the same treatment that the justice system and the administrations are granting to other neighborhoods in Spain.”
