European Music Day is one of the great musical events in Madrid that, for more than 15 years, has been celebrated in the contemporary culture center of Matadero Madrid. Numerous notable artists from the indie scene have performed on its stages, from Hot Chip (DJ set) and Sofía Kourtesis last year, to Erika de Casier or John Talabot or, in a more familiar aspect, Alondra Bentley.
In 2026, a new edition of DEMM will be held again in Matadero, coinciding, as usual, with the official day of music around the world, June 21. The festival will take place over three days – June 19, 20 and 21 – combining outdoor concerts, DJ sessions and parallel activities.
The musical program will begin on Friday, June 19, with a first day focused on the roots and sound experimentation of Ángeles Toledano, Rita Payés and Maria Arnal. Gazzi’s electronics session will close the night.
Saturday, June 20, will be marked by sounds closer to alternative pop and electronica, including the prominent presence of Depresion Sonora, pablopablo and Alizzz. The electronic music of Akazie (DJ) will put the finishing touch to the day.
In addition, the festival incorporates a program specially designed for all audiences. In Nave Una, both on Saturday June 20 and Sunday June 21 in the morning (12:00 p.m.), concerts by Le Parody and La Fantástica Banda will be held, aimed at a family audience.
For its part, Cineteca Madrid joins the program from June 16 to 21 with a special cycle of screenings dedicated to the relationship between music and cinema.
