Gia Margaret, happy to isolate herself from the track and the world

Our Album of the Week is going to be ‘Singing’ by Gia Margaret. The singer-songwriter reaches her fourth album after a complicated personal journey: she lost her voice after her first album, which forced her to reinvent herself by moving towards more ambient productions. There was a time when I didn’t know if I would be able to sing again, but luckily we have her back.

‘Everyone Around Me Dancing’, our Song of the Day today and lead single from this album, is also the narrative of a failure to adapt.

The singer remains “static” while “everyone dances around her.” A sensation perfectly captured in a beautiful video clip in which we see her remain oblivious to some partymates who dance or indulge in the bottle game.

And be careful because this feeling of isolation does not have to be negative, as she explains: ‘Everyone Around Me Dancing’ is a reflection on feeling isolated, and the comfort found in that isolation. “It’s about taking a break and observing how loud and scary this world is, and about finding calm in our inner world too.”

The exquisite production corresponds, apart from Gia Margaret herself, to Guy Sigsworth, who has also been in charge of the strings, the synthesizer and the soft percussion, almost close to trip hop. The trumpet is a great addition by Arve Henrickson.
