Demi Lovato continues her career on the sidelines of the charts, which quite inexplicably have not finished embracing any of her latest singles, such as ‘Fast’ or, especially, the excellent new wave pop of ‘Here All Night’. Both deserved a greater impact than they have obtained.
This will not prevent Demetria from relaunching her latest album, ‘It’s Not That Deep’, with a reissue that can be heard starting this Friday, April 24. Under the title ‘It’s Not That Deep (Unless You Want It to Be)’, Lovato will deliver nine unreleased songs: basically, a new album.
It will feature collaborations from COBRAH on ‘Fantasy’ and breakout pop artist Rose Gray on ‘Joshua Tree’, but the first preview is a completely solo track that opens the album: ‘Low Rise Jeans’ is the Song of the Day.
‘Low Rise Jeans’ leaves aside the club rhythms of the previous album to delve into a more direct two-mile electropop, as anticipated by its title, which alludes to a fashion of the time represented by female icons such as Britney Spears or Jennifer Lopez. A trend that, by the way, is returning.
Obviously inspired by Spears’ ‘Gimme More’, which it evokes with its hypnotic rhythmic base, ‘Low Rise Jeans’ recounts an episode of pure sexual tension, describing the intense flirtation between two people: she shows off her black thong, while her sexual interest “needs no imagination.” A fantasy made flesh.
