More than 1,100 artists call for a boycott of Eurovision: Kneecap, Brian Eno, Massive Attack…

No Music For Genocide has published an open letter calling for a boycott of Eurovision over its decision to keep Israel in the contest. More than 1,100 artists and workers in the cultural sector have signed the document, including Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Kneecap, Idles, Sigur Rós, Primal Scream, Hot Chip, Erika de Casier and Macklemore, among many others.

“For the third year in a row, Israel will be celebrated on stage despite the continued genocide in Gaza, while Russia continues to be expelled for its illegal invasion of Ukraine,” the letter reads. Apart from the names mentioned, Dry Cleaning, Mogwai, Smerz, Black Country, New Road, Peter Gabriel, Roger Waters and hundreds more have also joined this.

They call for a boycott of the contest until Israel is expelled by the EBU: “We refuse to remain silent when Israel’s genocidal violence is the soundtrack of silenced Palestinian lives.” Kneecap added in a statement that “Israel has been murdering Palestinians for decades and now they are committing genocide. It is the third year that they have been welcomed on stage. That is not neutrality. “It’s a choice.”
