Tyla continues to present her album ‘A-Pop’ and, this time, she has made sure to capture the attention of an audience different from her own, but already quite massive: that of Zara Larsson, guest star on the single.
‘She Did It Again’ is an exquisite dancehall and Afrobeat production, a style that defines Tyla’s career, but not so much that of Zara Larsson, who is more accustomed to danceable pop.
Both flow like fish in water on ‘She Did It Again’, evoking Rihanna’s occasional but important Caribbean moments, and invoking Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ in the lyrics (as the title already suggested), as well as exuding sensuality in their vocal performances. The only catch? Their timbres are difficult to distinguish, so the personality of both is not very defined in the recording.
The video tries to solve that little problem, functioning as a kind of modern remake of the video for Shakira and Beyoncé’s ‘Beautiful Liar’ and other iconic pop clips.
Others are actually remembering Rihanna and Shakira’s duet on ‘Can’t Remember to Forget You’. Luckily, ‘She Did It Again’, in its Afrobeat style, is not as linked to those three songs and is closer to the concept of global pop of our time.
‘She Did it Again’ deserves the success of ‘Chanel’, Tyla’s last hit, and ‘Stateside’, Zara Larsson’s current hit with PinkPantheress.
