Actress Ruby Rose, known for her participation in ‘Orange Is the New Black’, has made a series of inflammatory statements against Katy Perry on social media, claiming that the ‘Woman’s World’ singer sexually assaulted her 20 years ago, when they were both in their twenties. Both would have met in Melbourne in the period immediately before the release of ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Perry’s first single, published in 2008.
Rose maintains that the incident occurred at a Melbourne nightclub called Spice Market, where Perry sexually assaulted her. When a user responds to her accusation by quoting the chorus of ‘I Kissed a Girl’, Rose clarifies that it was not a kiss, but rather non-consensual sexual contact while she was leaning on her friend. “She saw me ‘resting’ on my best friend’s lap to avoid her, she leaned over, pulled her underwear aside and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until I opened my eyes suddenly and threw all my vomit on her,” she said.
Perry has denied the allegations through a representative: “The allegations circulating on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, but they are also dangerous and reckless lies,” the statement said. “Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public accusations on social media against various individuals, claims that have been repeatedly denied by those mentioned.”
Rose has shared her statements after seeing the viral video of Perry commenting on Justin Bieber’s concert at Coachella. “It has taken me almost two decades to say this publicly,” he said. “While I am so grateful to have come far enough to find my voice, this shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault have. Thank you for listening.” Rose has said that she has filed a police report against Perry in recent hours.
Rose, on the other hand, has indicated that she does not fear possible legal consequences from Perry: “She is more than welcome to sue me,” she says, although she indicates that Perry will not do so because she knows that “it happened; I have photos and it was literally in public and witnessed by several people.” Rose points out that in the years before ‘I Kissed a Girl’ “many other things happened that (Katy Perry) would prefer that I not comment on,” and describes that song as an attempt at “very strong psychological manipulation” by the artist.
This is not the first similar accusation against Perry. In 2019, model and actor Josh Kloss, who appeared with the singer in the ‘Teenage Dream’ video, accused Perry of “inappropriate sexual conduct” after pulling down his pants in a nightclub to show his private parts to “the entire party and a couple of his friends,” underscoring how “embarrassed” he felt.
