MARTIN turns the vertigo of growing up into luminous synth-pop

‘La Insolación’, the official debut of MARTIN, former Operación Triunfo 2023 contestant, arrives today, April 10, with the particularity of having been composed entirely together with Hidrogenesse, recent collaborators of Amaia Romero.

In ‘La Insolación’, Urrutia opts for a style of electronic indie pop that refers to proposals such as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone or the first albums by Genís and Carles, to tell stories of youth and nostalgia inspired by the famous novel by Carmen Laforet.

‘New memories’, ‘Another summer’ and the version of ‘Nadadora’, by Family, have served as previews of ‘La Insolación’, and with the release of the album comes a fourth bet in the form of a charming song with new wave echoes: ‘Déjalo ir’.

‘Let it go’, today’s Song of the Day, uses a light synth-pop sound, with eighties keyboards and bells, to return to the theme of maturity: “Let it go, you tell me, turn the page, don’t hold on,” sings MARTIN, who uses images such as the bed he sleeps in at his parents’ house or his wisdom tooth to express his reluctance to grow.

The great reflection of ‘Let it go’ puts a mirror in front of the listener: “You always say that I don’t give up anything / and the rest of you keep very little.” The original video clip places Urrutia performing the song on top of the bed mentioned in the lyrics.
