Almodóvar, Los Javis and Sorogoyen make history competing in Cannes at the same time

Spain makes history at the Cannes Festival by getting, for the first time, three films to compete in the main section: ‘Bitter Christmas’ by Pedro Almodóvar, ‘El ser loved’ by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and ‘The Black Ball’ by the Javis, which has not yet been released, have been the selected films.

This is a milestone for Spanish cinema because it had never before managed to have three films simultaneously in the Competition section of the Cannes Festival, one of the most prestigious film competitions in the world. In comparison, countries like France or the United States usually have several productions in the competition.

This year’s edition of the festival will be held from May 12 to 23, with Park Chan-wook as president of the jury and the awarding of Honorary Palmes d’Or to Peter Jackson and Barbra Streisand.
