Since the interesting but irregular ‘(watch my moves)’ in 2022 we have not had a new Kurt Vile album, but this will no longer be the case starting next May 29, the date on which the new album by the American singer-songwriter and guitarist will be released, four years later, which will be titled ‘Philadelphia’s Been Good to Me’.
Vile will present his new album throughout an extensive tour that, for the moment, will not go through Spain, but will go through many other European cities such as Paris, London or Berlin.
The first trailer, ‘Chance to Bleed’, appropriates the terminology of classic rock, that which speaks of “bleeding” to express an authentic and deep feeling, and draws a curious portrait of rock nostalgia, although potentially ironic, since much of the lyrics are made up of quotes in quotation marks.
“Now’s your chance to bleed,” intones an enthusiastic Kurt Vile, armed with his typical rolling cadence composition for which he is known. The lyrics mention a band “of bros that play live”, a “microphone too hot to pick up” and celebrate one of those nights in which the group plays live music: “rock and roll nights from another time, lo-fi and DIY”.
The level of musical references also includes a “bloody” Wurlitzer and rhymes like “my jelly bb-baby / sweet mama,” which seem taken from a 1950s rock songbook, by Chuck Berry or Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
